LCOS LX 7.20 – New features for high-performance and secure Wi-Fi networks
With LCOS LX 7.20, you get a comprehensive set of features designed to enhance transparency, security, and performance in Wi-Fi networks. The Wi-Fi end-to-end test examines the entire connection chain from the user’s perspective, enabling fast and precise troubleshooting. The IP- and DNS-based firewall in the access points provides additional security by specifically controlling data traffic and blocking unwanted connections. In addition, Client Management helps you optimize Wi-Fi performance: Wi-Fi clients are intelligently distributed across suitable access points and frequency bands, ensuring balanced load distribution and allowing users to connect using the most stable connection available.
Feature highlights
Wi-Fi end-to-end test
The Wi-Fi end-to-end test enables fast and precise troubleshooting. An access point acts as a Wi-Fi client and tests the entire connection chain under realistic conditions from the user’s perspective – from Wi-Fi authentication and DHCP to DNS, hotspot login, and speed testing. This allows the causes of issues to be identified quickly and precisely. Tests can be run on demand or automatically using a profile.
IP- and DNS-based firewall for Wi-Fi networks
The IP- and DNS-based firewall in the access point enhances Wi-Fi network security by providing targeted control over data traffic. Depending on your requirements, you can choose between “deny all” with defined exceptions and “allow all” with targeted blocks. Rules can be defined for both IP addresses and DNS names. The access point uses DNS queries to determine the corresponding IP addresses. During roaming, the DNS cache is synchronized via IAPP between access points with the same SSID, ensuring that security policies remain consistently enforced even when clients switch between access points.
Client Management – for optimal Wi-Fi connections
Client Management automatically ensures that Wi-Fi clients connect to the most suitable access point and frequency band. To achieve this, clients are intelligently distributed across the available Wi-Fi resources. The access points exchange information with one another and steer clients to the appropriate access points. The result: more balanced load distribution, stable connections, and optimized Wi-Fi performance.
Further features & improvements
- SSH public key authentication: As an alternative to logging in with a username and password, SSH public key authentication allows users to access the device using a stored SSH public key. This enables secure login without the need to enter a password.
- Scheduled actions via Cron: The Cron function allows CLI commands to be executed automatically at defined times. This makes it easy to automate recurring administrative tasks and configuration changes according to a defined schedule.
- Additional administrators: Additional administrators with restricted privileges can be created for different administrative tasks. This allows access rights to be assigned selectively without having to share the main device password.
- Updating the Wi-Fi driver: An updated Wi-Fi driver improves the stability and compatibility of Wi-Fi connections and optimizes interoperability with various client devices.
