St. Canice’s Credit Union Network Upgrade with LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC)

St. Canice’s Credit Union is one of the country’s largest community credit unions headquartered in Kilkenny City with more than 65,000 members and close to half a billion euros in assets.
It serves its members through its branches which are spread across several counties including Kilkenny, Laois and Carlow as well as through their 24/7 online services.
Project Overview:
St. Canice’s Credit Union was operating with an outdated network infrastructure that had developed gradually across its various branches. The challenge was to modernise and upgrade this network.
The upgrade needed to enhance both hardware and software, offering significantly improved security, robustness, resilience, and scalability, along with advanced monitoring capabilities.
Additionally, St. Canice’s aimed to implement a single pane of glass solution for streamlined network management.
They were particularly interested in working with a solution provider that had experience within the community credit union sector.

A Collaboration with BITS
BITS introduced St. Canice’s Credit Union to LANCOM Systems and worked collaboratively with St. Canice’s Credit Union and with LANCOM to design and deliver the LANCOM Management Cloud solution. BITS are huge advocates of the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC) solution and played a significant role in reaching out St.Canices and ensuring this was the ideal choice for the Credit Union’s network upgrade.
Before the rollout, BITS organized several planning sessions with St. Canice’s IT team and LANCOM. These sessions focused on developing a comprehensive implementation plan, with the primary goal of ensuring a smooth and seamless transition to the new system.

Solutions Delivered and Results Achieved
- The implemented solution includes a built-in automatic connectivity failover, designed by BITS and LANCOM, which is crucial for St. Canice’s Credit Union. This feature ensures uninterrupted service for the Credit Union’s 65,000+ members, guaranteeing that they can access services whenever needed without any downtime.
- A complex new network was installed across multiple branches without any disruption to operations – critical to a financial services provider where business continuity needs to be adhered to.
- The results included a “single pane of glass” management solution as requested from the client – which allows the user to monitor multiple platforms on one screen which also saves a significant amount of time on support and reducing the possibility of confusion.
- The LMC solution has made it easier for both the Credit Union and BITS to manage and monitor the network on a 24 hour basis across all the Credit Union’s branches.
- The LANCOM Management Cloud allows users to dynamically control network operations in the WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi, and security from a single cloud platform. As a result this reduces complexity and overall operating costs and allows central, scalable and future proof network management.
- The proactive alerting feature integrated into the LMC allows the Credit Union to react and respond to issues in a much more timely manner than the previous solution allowed.
- It was key that the solution provided a built-in automatic connectivity failover that BITS and LANCOM designed and that is essential in the Credit Union, ensuring that services are available to all 65,000+ members, as and when they need them, with no interruption.
